Thomas V. Allen, Jr. has Crossed the Bar

The St Francis Sailing Foundation, with great sadness, reports the passing of Director Tom Allen. Tom was a Founder of the St Francis Sailing Foundation, and served as a Director and Grants Committee chair since the Foundation’s inception twenty-seven years ago. He was instrumental in expanding the scope of the Foundation and led its granting program to the benefit of countless sailors. He was Commodore of the St. Francis Yacht Club in 1994 and also served as an officer and director of several other boating organizations, including the Pacific Inter-Club Yacht Association, the US Sailing Association, the Yacht Racing Association of San Francisco Bay and Treasure Island Sailing Center Foundation. Tom successfully raced his own IOD sailboat, ‘Whitecap’ on San Francisco Bay for more than forty years. He was a graduate of University of California, Berkeley where he received a BS in Electrical Engineering and an MBA. He retired from IBM after thirty two years in marketing.

We have surely lost a great gentleman and yachtsman who worked tirelessly on behalf of our sport the Foundation.  He showed great compassion and caring, particularly for the young people in our sport. Tom will be honored with a Memorial Celebration of Life on Saturday, January 19, 3-5 pm, at St. Francis Yacht Club.

Contributions in his memory may be made to St. Francis Sailing Foundation or the Treasure Island Sailing Center Foundation.
