For more than 20 years, the St. Francis Sailing Foundation has provided support to sailors, from entry to Olympic level and to sailing organizations that are consistent with our mission, as stated below:
The St. Francis Sailing Foundation, a 501c(3) charitable organization with TIN 94-2956977, has been created to encourage, promote, and enhance the sport of sailing. It provides support to young sailors just beginning their sailing careers, competitive sailors as they advance, and elite sailors seeking world class competition. Additionally, it assists various programs that introduce sailing to students, underserved youth, and individuals who face physical challenges.
Because 2024 was an Olympic year, a higher level of funding was directed to the US Olympic sailors, many of whom are St. Francis Yacht Club members. A summary of the allocated grants for 2024 is as follows:
Olympians and Olympic Aspirants: $225,300
The Foundation supported Olympians and earned a Bronze Medal in the men’s 49er Class as well as 4th in the women’s kiteboard, and Gold Fleet (top 10) finishes in the men’s kiteboard, women’s singlehanded ILCA 6, and women’s 49er FX. It also supported athletes with top 20 finishes in the mixed Nacra 17 and 470 classes.
Serious Youth and Adult Sailors: $32,500
The Foundation supported sailors competing in events appropriate for their level of skill and development. This support allowed many Bay Area kids to travel to both national and international competitions they would not have otherwise been able to attend.
Organizations: $104,500
Examples include the following: Treasure Island Sailing Center Set Sail Learn Program, Bay Area Association of Disabled Sailors, Spaulding Marine Center, Peninsula Youth Sailing, individual scholarships to attend StFYC junior programs, and non-StFYC member participation in Northern California high
school sailing based at StFYC.
Special Events and Clinics: $2500
Dave Perry Rules Seminars held at Bay Area yacht clubs
The Foundation is an entirely volunteer-run organization.
